·     Occidental college
·     Enrolled in the university of Southern California 1905
·     Jeffers is a voice of nature

Continent’s End
·     Ocean maternal characteristics
·     Sea is the source of life
·     The short lyrics tells the meaning of human life and its correlation to the sea. It focuses on the more ancient source of both human life and the ocean. Oceanic life-forms into the mindset and assurance of human kind.
·     The sea is destructive as well

To the Stone Cutters
·     A free verse
·     Contemplation of the future
·     The tone is dark and discouraging
·     Poets and stone cutter’s carve their legacy onto stones, so they are never forgotten
·     Anyone can be a stone-cutter
·     Oblivion
·     The poem shows the importance of being remembered and known

Carmel Point
·     Description of scenery
·     It speaks about the beauty of things before they are damage by our hands
·     Speaks about time and how we eventually dissolve – our being, the image we work so hard on obtaining and preserving
·     It tells us that we need to be more confident in who we are and not try to be perfect
·     Nature and humankind

    Hey Samuel,

    I liked the stone cutter, did you get the feeling he was referring to immortality? We tend to say things that last forever are "written in stone". I did not get dark and discouraging, however, I did pick up on his feelings of thanklessness.

Week 5 Analysis: The Humanoid Robot

“Moxon’s Master” is a story written by Ambrose Bierce which tells the story of Moxon, the master, who creates a chess-playing robot. Moxon is developing a sentient conscious machine, one that can think and possesses intelligence. Although the narrator states that robots have no brains or source of thinking, he is trying to create a which he believes will be capable of thinking, acting and possessing consciousness- a robot or automaton which will be able to perform actions independent of its creator – the idea of a humanoid robot. Analysis Week 7: A Immigrant Succeeding

Yone Noguchi was born in Nagoya, Japan. He studied Haiku and Zen Buddhism, English philosophy and poetry at a university in Tokyo. He later moved to California. He was the first literary figure in two cultures to arrive in California. The short story “Some Stories of My Western Life” is an creative nonfiction of Yone Noguchi’s life as he left his homeland to go to California.  Yone Noguchi tells the story of his journey to California. In the beginning of the story Noguchi says that his friends wished him godspeed and how he became sad his eldest brother came to say goodbye to him from Yokohama. In the story, Noguchi shares his excitement when he sees “a vastness of water”. This one particular experience, the reader finds itself returning to a younger time of Noguchi’s life. Reading Notes W15 : Moten, Part B

Fred Moten Born in 1962 and raised in Las Vegas Focuses on black studies, poetry, and critical theory The Salve Trade The poem of Fred Moten is hard to understand, the reader should look at it in a different way. This poem is about the idea of the slave trade and Fred Moten just rearrange the letters and come up with slave trade. The poem also uses the technique it which it jumps from thoughts to thoughts which makes it interesting to read because it does not really show what the real issue it discusses. There are also a lot of things that occur in the poem which makes it really hard to understand the poem. It mostly shows the idea of black people which was not directly quoted but   Moten uses the phrase “I started reading my paper and ash flew from their big ol’” which describe the skin color of the black people.
