Compare and contrast elements of two different texts. For example, explore the similarities and differences between two characters in the texst, or examine how one theme is handled in similar and dissimilar ways in two different texts.
You may choose from any of the readings we have done this semester including poetry, short fiction, and drama. You may also choose two texts from two different genres to write about (a poem and a short story, for example).
· I like this topic because after doing my first literary analysis, I really am interested in seeing how two text have both, similarities and differences. I would like to see if each have similar belief patterns that are usually founded in indigenous cultures. If their differences stem from different cultural backgrounds or beliefs system.
From a piece of fiction (short story, section of novel, or a play) choose a female character on whom to focus, and create a project that discusses some of the following questions:
- What is the author’s attitude towards her? (how can you tell?)
- What is your attitude towards her?
- How do (at least 2) other characters view her?
- How does she view herself?
· After reading “About-the-House-Girl (Karok) I saw how certain qualities of women are viewed and how they differ with their age. To see how stories represent woman in indigenous cultures would also introduce to something I didn’t really know about. I wonder if each story shows woman of all ages throughout their story or poem, so I am able to read the details on how they are viewed – like I did in “About-the-House-Girl.”
Choose a reading.
In your project, consider the following:
What does this work reflect about its historical, social, political and/or economic context? You may focus on race, class, power, cultural values and beliefs, historical events, the author’s biography, gender, psychology, etc.
· The history behind some of these readings are really challenging to find, which is why I think this topic will be very interesting to write about. It will require a lot of research, but it will be a very knowledge journey. I feel that this topic can be done for almost any reading, so I feel that I have a lot of options to focus on.
