§ Of the Dances of Indians
· All Indian peoples have their own dances, distinct from each other.
· California Indians do not dance just for festivals but in remembrance of the grandparents, uncles and aunts, and parents now dead.
· On the first dance no one can dance without permission with the elders. They must be from the same age group.
· Clothing is of feathers of different colors and the body painted, chest exposed. The face is painted. Their head is buond with a band of hair woven so as to be able to thrust in the cheyatom.
o This cheyat is made of feathers of any bird, and almost always from crows and from hawks, and in the middle a sharp little stick that allows it to go in.
